Description:

(1911 - 2004) Fortieth President of the United States who served for two terms (1981-1989) and contributed to the fall of European Communism. Very rare war-date T.L.S. 'Ronald Reagan' as a captain in the U.S. Army, 1p. 4to., 'Unit Personnel Section First Motion Picture Unit Army Air Forces', Culver City, Jan. 6, 1944. Reagan approves the request of enlisted man Pvt. Edward A. Reeve who had transferred into his company the same month and who claims never to have received furlough papers. In part: '...If EM's statement is correct request that furlough papers properly authenticated be forwarded this headquarters for payment on the payroll following their receipt...' Light toning and soiling, else very good. Barred from combat due to his poor eyesight, Reagan headed the films unit of the A.A.C. where he narrated pre-flight training films for bomber pilots prior top their bombing missions on Japan. By the end of the war, his units had produced some 400 training films. Reagan's war-dated army letters are excessively rare!
