Description:

RONALD REAGAN
(1911 - 2004) Fortieth President of the United States who served for two terms (1981-1989) and contributed to the fall of European Communism. Rare D.S. "Ronald Reagan" as President, 1p. folio, Washington, Mar. 2, 1987, the appointment of John O. Koehler to serve as Reagan's assistant and Director of Communications. Co-signed by Secretary of State GEORGE P. SCHULTZ. Reagan's signature has faded somewhat due to exposure to sunlight but remains fully and easily legible. Both signature areas were later shielded from the sun, keeping them white while the balance of the document has yellowed slightly, otherwise fine. Simply framed. Koehler had been a long-time personal friend to Reagan and Nixon, previously employed as a senior correspondent for AP but was also an undercover agent for the CIA. When it was revealed that he had served in the Hitler Youth, he was obliged to resign his position. Sold with a similar Reagan appointment of Koehler to serve as a member of the National Commission for Employment, 1p. folio, Washington, Dec. 12, 1988, likewise co-signed by Schultz, but both signatures being autopen. Two pieces.
