Description:

RONALD REAGAN WHITE HOUSE DINNER PLATE
Ronald Reagan White House dinner plate, by china makers Robert C. Floyd. This design was an informal pattern also used aboard Air Force One and at Camp David, and is seen in many period photographs. The handsome plate bears a gilt Presidential seal on one side, and navy blue, burgundy and gilt trim to rim. Underside reads in gilt lettering: 'White House Service / by Robert C. Floyd / Fitz & Floyd, Inc. / Fine China / 1983'. The plate measures 10 1/4" dia. Fine From the estate of Cmdr. Ronald L. Jackson (1928-1990). Jackson, a Navy officer, was tasked with supervising the planning and implementation of reciprocal state dinners, the operation of the White House Mess and food service at Camp David and aboard Air Force One, and travelled everywhere with Presidents Johnson through George H. Bush. Sold with a second dinner plate with very similar design, same diameter, also made by Fitz & Floyd and dated Japan, 1973. Undoubtedly, this plates served as a model for the piece used ten years later for the White House, and begs the question: Was the Reagan White House china made in Japan?
