Description:

RONALD REAGAN SIGNED HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK
RONALD REAGAN (1911 - 2004) Fortieth President of the United States who served for two terms (1981-1989) and contributed to the fall of European Communism. Possibly the earliest signed Reagan piece obtainable, the 1928 Dixon (Illinois) High School yearbook 'The Dixonian', signed by Reagan beside his portrait in football gear. The book was owned by classmate Helen Chapman whose father was a local 'bigshot', the owner of a bank and oil company, and Reagan and Helen appear to have been close. Reagan appears throughout the 144p. 4to. book: on p. 8 in an oval portrait; p. 29 in his senior class portrait where he is misidentified as 'Donald Reagan' beside his quote: 'Life is just one grand sweet song, so start the music.'; p.40 in a candid; pp. 46-47 with the student council; pp. 65 and 66 in drama class; pp. 76 and 79 with the football team, the latter signed: 'Ronald Reagan '28 (Dutch)'; p. 86 on the track team; and on p. 114 with 'Margaret'. Book owner Chapman annotated the book later with notes pointing our Reagan and other friends in the class, and their later pursuits. Fine condition. In 1924, Reagan entered Dixon High School with a strong love for football. His small stature and low weight made him acceptable only for a special smaller youth division, but determination and hard work, along with an impressive growth spurt, landed him a spot as right guard and tackle on the varsity team. He also involved himself in writing and acting as president of the Dramatic Club. He also worked as art director of the yearbook and vice president in charge of entertainment for the YMCA 's Hi-Y Club. In his senior year at Dixon High School, Reagan was elected Student Body President and gained his first real leadership experience.
