Description:

RONALD REAGAN JELLY BEAN JAR AND STOCKINGS GIVEN TO A TERMINALLY ILL CHILD
A touching collection of items given by then-President Ronald Reagan to young Amy Benham of Westport, Washington in 1983. Benham had been granted a visit to the White House to light the National Christmas Tree as a gift from the Make A Wish Foundation following her diagnosis with terminal Hodgkin's lymphoma. She said she hoped that the tree lighting would be seen: "all the way to Heaven". Included is a sealed jar of "Jelly Belly" jelly beans bearing a printed presidential seal and printed Reagan signature on the jar and blue box; two White House (unmarked) security badges; three ornate stockings given to the girl and her parents at the White House as Christmas gifts; a VHS tape with all the major newscasts of the visit and the Christmas program that was televised; her Sep. 5, 1985 to Mar. 6, 1986 handwritten journal signed on the cover, the contents showing the young girl's strength in the face of her imminent death; and news clippings, a photo, and the text of Reagan's remarks upon the lighting of the tree. Amy Benham died on Oct. 22, 1986.
