Description:

ROGER A. PRYOR
(1828 - 1919) Confederate brigadier general, known in the years leading up to the war for his eloquent speeches advocating slavery, secession, and state's rights. Good content A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Richmond, May 4, 1858, to ‘My Dear Burwell', possibly future Confederate officer and North Carolina Supreme Court justice Armistead Burwell. Pryor requests that his correspondent submit editorials to his newspaper ‘The South', in part: ‘Perhaps you have concluded to write no more for The South. If you have not so concluded, I write to request that you will please furnish editorials during my absence in Alabama. It seems to me that I may make something for The South by attending the commencing convention. At any rate I will continue the experiment…' He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows faint folds, faintly toned at the edges, and with archival tape mounting remnants to the verso, otherwise in very good to fine condition.
