ROBERT SERVATIUS
(1894 - 1983) German lawyer, known for his defense of Nazi war criminals at Nuremberg including Fritz Sauckel, Karl Brandt, and Paul Pleiger. He also defended Adolf Eichmann at his trial in Israel in 1961. T.L.S. in pencil on his professional letterhead, 1p. 4to., Koln, Oct. 9, 1949, to Lisa Sauckel, widow of Nazi war criminal FRITZ SAUCKEL (1894-1946), Nazi chief of slave labor recruitment who seized over five million workers and kept them under the vilest conditions. He writes, in part: '...I am happy to send you the documents you requested, but I ask you to be patient for 14 days, as I am currently defending myself in Luxembourg and have to find the files myself. You remember the circumstances following the trial and the uncertain situation which made it seem right that you did not have the items in your own custody. Hope you and your children are well...'
