ROBERT R. LIVINGSTON
(1746 - 1813) American politician and one of the five drafters of the Declaration of Independence, first Secretary of Foreign Affairs and administrator of the oath of office to George Washington. Pair of signed items, includes : manuscript D.S. as Chancellor , 2pp. legal folio, New York, Dec. 20, 1794, a recognizance bond issued to a man for $150, the suspect having been accused of "swindling" another individual. In only fair condition with splits at folds and loss of part of two lines of text, along with a mansucript signed D.S., 1p. 12mo., New York, Dec. 17, 1794, a summons for the same transgressor with a three-line A.E.S. on verso. Attached to the former document is a D.S. by MARINUS WILLETT (1740-1830), veteran of the Revolution and a leader of the Sons of Liberty, who fought under Washington and Sullivan and was a commander of forces in the Mohawk Valley. In the 1p. legal folio document, New York, Dec. 16, 1794, Willett returns a writ concerning the arrest of the "swindler".
