Description:

ROBERT PENN WARREN
(1905-1989) American poet and writer, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, All the King's Men. Fine content T.L.S. 1p. oblong 8vo., Fairfield, CT, Oct. 8, 1962, to Mr. Wilder, in part: "...Thank you very much for your note on the prayer controversy. I think you are, in the human sense, absolutely right, but what is to be done when somebody out of defensiveness or bigotry, does raise the question. Of course to ban prayer in our schools runs into all sorts of contradictions in our legal set-up. People get sworn into office, etc. But I might prefer to see it abolished than submitted to some sort of local majority rule...I also enjoyed the article on Faulkner in the same issue...The notion of community is central in Faulkner, and many critics have missed the fact. It is a big thing in Cleanth's forthcoming book on Faulkner...". Light wrinkling, else very good.
