ROBERT LEY
(1890-1945) Nazi leader and ardent anti-Semite who as head of the Labor Front ruthlessly enforced slave labor policies. He committed suicide in his jail cell at Nuremberg while awaiting trial. Fine association T.L.S. on his official D.A.F. letterhead, 2pp. large 4to., Berlin, Dec. 10, 1941 to Wehrmacht Gen. ERHARD MILCH who has added an extensive holograph notation in orange indelible pencil and initialed it 'M'. Ley writes concerning the airplane manufacturer Erla Machine Works in Leipzig. Pilot Wolff von Wedelstaedt had left the company and Ley asks why such a valuable person had been lost. He states that Erla was a model company, and Ley is shocked at the turn of events. He hopes that the man may be retained in the company's service, and asks for his personnel files. In his holograph note, Milch mentions Ley, but the balance of his writing is indecipherable. File holes at left, else very good. Erla was a major manufacturer of German fighter aircraft.
