Description:

ROBERT F. KENNEDY
(1925 - 1968) American politician who successfully managed his brother John's presidential campaign and was later appointed Attorney General. He was assassinated in 1968 while running for president. Rare, and endlessly charming T.L.S. as Senate chief counsel on official Senate letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Jan. 28, 1958, a letter to "Rosie" the family dog [!] of the Drummonds of West Virginia. The Drummonds were friends with Kathryn Keeney, a Kennedy aide, and related to her that Rosie would grow agitated and bark incessantly whenever RFK would appear on television. Kennedy, when he heard of his effect on Rosie, wrote her: "Dear Rosie, According to Kathryn Keeney, you were unhappy because I disturbed your early morning sleep way down in West Virginia when I was on Dave Garroway's show recently. I am so sorry as I understand what it means to be dog tired-- and how much sleep is needed, particularly at the ripe old age of six. If I promise to speak softly hereafter on early T.V. programs until I feel it is time for you to be awake-- will you forgive me this one time?". Boldly signed "Robert F Kennedy". Fine, and probably the only letter written by a major American politician to an AKC-registered bulldog!
