Description:

ROBERT ANDERSON
(1805 - 1871) Union brigadier general, the "Hero of Fort Sumter", who refused Confederate demands to surrender the fort and ultimately endured two days of bombardment before capitulating. S.P. signed twice, a carte-de-visite photograph of Anderson showing him chest, up in profile and in uniform, signed at the bottom of the image: "Robert Anderson Major Gen. U.S.A.". On the verso he inscribes the image: "For Mrs. Geo. Griswold from her friend Robert Anderson Dresden July 4, 1869". Backstamp by Sarony, New York. Very good. Sold with a photograph of the attractive Mrs. Griswold set into an ornate, hand-painted frame. Two pieces.
