Description:

ROBERT A. CAMERON (1828 - 1894) Union brigadier general, fought at New Madrid, Island No. 10 and in the Red River expedition. Scarce war-date A.D.S. penned on a muster roll, 1p. folio, [n.p.], Aug. 31, 1862, a muster role from the famous 34th Indiana, "The Morton Rifles", which had the distinction of fighting in the last land action of the war, the Battle of Palmito Ranch, Texas May 12-13, 1865, and also of suffering the last soldier killed during the war, Private John J. Williams. This document lists the staff officers and 12 men who have been discharged, all of whom have signed upon receipt of their wages. Cameron pens and signs a long attestation at lower-right stating that he witnessed payments being made, as well as noting that the chaplain had served full duty as well. He signs the attestation, and has signed three more times: once beside his name on the roll, and twice on verso, although these two signature are partly obscured by tape reinforcements. Overall very good.
