36. DANIEL ROBERDEAU (1727-1795) American Revolutionary, a signer of the Articles of Confederation, first brigadier general of Pennsylvania troops in 1776. War-date A.L.S. as Continental Congressman with integral address leaf, 1p. 4to., York Town, Pa., Nov. 14, 1777. Roberdeau writes to fellow congressman Timothy Matlack, the "Fighting Quaker", from the temporary location of the Continental Congress following its flight from Philadelphia. He warmly thanks Matlack for sending five books via express and asks that he pay the bearer of this letter on his behalf. He adds: "...at this instant business is so pressing and important I cannot attend to it, which is also my apology for breaking off so abruptly...[send also] the Virgil, if my negligent friend Col. Bayard has not done it..." Expertly inlaid, light toning, else very good. $300-400
