RICHARD WALTHER DARRE
(1895 - 1953) Nazi Minister of Food and head of the Central Office of Race and Resettlement of the SS. Fine association war-date T.L.S. 1p. legal folio, Berlin, Jan. 8, 1940 onn his personal letterhead to SS-Oberst Karl Maria Wiligut (1866-1946), an Austrian occultist and SS-Brigadefuhrer employed in the personal staff and offices of Himmler and Wolff. He contributed greatly to the creation of the SS ceremonial training ground Wewelsburg and designed the Totenkopfring. Darre sends thanks for Wiligut's letter and advises him that: ‘...I have at once arranged for Dr. [Wilhelm] Kinkelin to progress [on] everything and he will communicate to you the particulars on your common concern…'. Dr. Wilhelm Kinkelin (1886-1990) was a physician, member of the SA and SS-Oberfuhrer who became chief of the Reichsbauerfuhrer in 1939; also a member of the ‘German Ancestral Heritage Study Society for Spiritual Prehistory' (‘Ahnenerbe') formed by Himmler in 1935 and which, significantly, participated in art theft during the 1930s. Himmler, who was very interested in occult topics, also used the Ahnenerbe as an apparatus for other projects of personal interest. Toned at top edge, else very good condition and boldly signed.
