RICHARD-WALTHER DARRE
(1895 - 1953) Nazi Minister of Food and Agriculture, and head of the Central Office of Race and Resettlement of the SS. Cnvicted of war crimes and sentenced to seven years imprisonment. T.L.S. on his Reichsminister letterhead, 1p. oblong 8vo., Berlin, June 19, 1944, to 'Kamerad Turner', HARALD TURNER (1891-1947), Generalleutnant in the Waffen-SS. In part: '...Thank you for your lines from May 30th, the content of which was completely new to me. I would like to thank comrade [SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Richard] Hildebrandt warmly for his greetings and ask whether he did not receive my congratulations on his birthday. Hell Hitler!...'. Multiple dockets, file holes at left, very good. Turner had served as an SS-Gruppenfuhrer in Serbia, as head of the German Military Administration's staff in Belgrade where he played a leading role in the murder of Jews and Roma. In 1944, he acted as deputy head of the SS Race and Settlement Main Office, under Hildebrandt. He was executed postwar in Belgrade.
