RICHARD STOCKTON, JR.
(1764 - 1828) The first U.S. Attorney to represent New Jersey in the United States Senate and later in the U.S. House of Representatives, also ran unsuccessfully for vice president with the Federalist Party in 1820. He was one of two sons of the signer of the Declaration of Independence from New Jersey and member of the Continental Congress, Richard Stockton. Lengthy A.D.S. signed twice 'R. Stockton Esq.', 1p. small oblong 8vo., New Jersey, [n.d. but docketed 1789 in pencil at bottom], in small part: '...The State of New Jersey to the Sheriff of the County Huntingdon Greeting. We command you that you Restrain the several persons named individually in the panel annexed to this writ being the Jury Summoned in our Supreme Court between John Williams [?] and his wife...so that you may have their bodies before the Justices of the Supreme Court at Trenton on the Second Tuesday...', and more. Light toning to margin, signed once on recto and again after lengthy docket on verso, very good condition.
