RICHARD PETERS (1704 - 1776) American cleric and a civil servant in colonial Pennsylvania, also served as secretary to a series of colonial governors and on the Governor's Council from 1737 until the Revolution. Fine association A.L.S. 1p. 4to., [Philadelphia?], May 24, 1753 to Conrad Weiser (1696-1760), an interpreter and emissary in councils between Native Americans and the colonies, especially Pennsylvania. Peters mentions that he has received a packet of letters from Weiser who was at the time in Germany, adding: "...I wish you were here to advise the Legislature in what manner to give their assistance to the Indians...". Archival tape repairs to chips and folds, some show-through, still good.
