RICHARD M. NIXON
(1913 - 1994) 37th President of the United States, who reopened diplomatic ties with China and the USSR, resigned in 1974 due to the Watergate Scandal. Pair of signed items, includes: T.L.S. 'Dick' on his personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., San Clemente, Aug. 13, 1976, to a fellow lawyer and World War II Navy bunkmate. Nixon sends warm thanks for his friend's concern over the recent illness of Patricia Nixon: '...She is home now, and slowly but surely making splendid progress toward full recovery...her courage and determination...have contributed greatly to the progress she has made...as well as the prayers of people all over the world...' On July 7, 1976, at La Casa Pacifica, Pat Nixon suffered a stroke, which resulted in the paralysis of her entire left side. Physical therapy enabled her to eventually regain all movement. She said that her recovery was 'the hardest thing I have ever done physically'; WITH an I.S.P., 8 x 10 in. b/w, a seated casual pose, damp stained. Two pieces.
