Description:

RICHARD HENRY LEE
(1732 - 1794) American Revolutionary statesman who with Jefferson and Henry was prominent in the defense of colonial rights, Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Excessively rare A.D.S. signed four times, 2pp. 8vo, [n.p.], October 1793, a payment statement entirely in Lee's hand outlining money he owes to his distant relative and future Attorney General Charles Lee (1758- 1815) for 'his time.' Lee writes his own name in the text of the document four separate times. A few scattered stains and spots of ink show through. Matted and framed in a fine display with an engraved nameplate. To the back of the frame is an affixed scan of the verso of the document. Richard Henry Lee would die only a few months after this document was written, and Charles Lee administered the last will and testament of his distant cousin, so it is very likely this was payment for legal services rendered.
