RICHARD E. BYRD
(1888 - 1957) American aviator and explorer, first to fly over the South Pole and established the base "Little America". Fine content T.L.S. 1p. 4to. on Byrd Arctic Expedition letterhead, New York, June 26, 1926 to John Dorr Bradley, President of the Geographic Society of Chicago concerning their award of a gold medal honoring his historic flight to the North Pole. He writes, in part: "...I cannot tell you how deeply I appreciate the honor which it is the intention of your society to confer upon me. I note what you say regarding my visit to Chicago in the Autumn and regret that at the moment I am unable to tell you details of my plans. When I know definitely the time of my visit I shall be pleased to let you know...". Usual folds, else fine condition.
