Description:

RICHARD CARY Aide de camp to George Washington from June 21, 1776. Scarce A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Cooperstown, May 19, 1804 to Charles and George Webster. Cary is pressed to pay a debt and begs for additional time: "...I now intreat of you as a particular favor, that you will not crowd me at present...in my present unfortunate situation, I have as much as I can bear...there is no danger of you losing your debt...I will make every exertion in my power to pay it...". Apparently Cary's plea worked - a note on verso indicates the loan was extended an additional year. Seal tear at right margin costs a few letters of text, an old tape repair on verso, else very good.
