RICHARD B. LYONS
(1817 - 1887) 1st Viscount Lyons, British diplomat and the favorite diplomat of Queen Victoria. Lyons is best known for solving the Trent Affair during the Civil War, while he served as British Ambassador to the United States from 1858 to 1865. Lot of three items, includes an A.L.S, 2pp. 8vo., Washington, June 12, 1862 to a reverend in Providence. Lyons discusses placing advertisements concerning 'young Innes' in a few New York newspapers and mentions he will be returning to England for a short while, leaving the charge d'affaires to deal with 'this affair'. Toning at left on first page. Sold with a carte de visite of Lyons and his calling card. Three pieces.
