Description:

Excellent set of uniform articles and related items utilized by Grey's Scouts, a mounted infantry unit of the Rhodesian Army which saw heavy action in the Bush War of 1964-1979. The group includes: a grey felt beret, approx. 9 1/2" dia. flat, with a metal cap badge displaying the Grey's Scouts insignia on a maroon wool ground. The interior is lined with black cloth, and the cap is completely unmarked and in fine condition; a Rhodesian Army "brushstroke" camouflage fatigue uniform, consisting of a short-sleeved shirt with breast pockets and epaulet straps, with a cloth label inside the collar bearing the manufacturer's name "Trevain" and the stenciled owner's names "Kenp" and "Payn". A smaller label gives the size "41/16". The shirt is accompanied by a matching pair of fatigue trousers with two vertical slash hip pockets and three additional patch pockets, and three wide buttoned belt loops. These are again stamped "Kenp" within the waistband. Both in very good condition; an additional pair of brushstroke camouflage trousers fitted with the same pocket arrangement described above in addition to two patch pockets on the seat, with five wide belt loops and two waistband adjustment straps. The names "Paynter" and "Kenp" are inscribed within the trousers in black ink. In very good to fine condition; A pair of olive-drab fatigue trousers fitted with slash pockets at each hip and a patch pocket on the left-hand leg, and two flap-covered patch pockets on the seat. The waistband bears four wide belt loops and two metal-buckled adjustment straps. The inside of the waistband bears a fabric label identifying the maker as "Yakka Pty. The is further marked "Size 3" and bears the "broad arrow" mark more typically associated with materiel issued by the British War Department.
