(REVOLUTIONARY WAR)
JOSEPH I. ANDERSON (1757-1837) Revolutionary War officer, accompanied Sullivan against the Iroquois and took part in Yorktown. Manuscript L.S. as Comptroller of the Treasury, 1p. 4to., Feb. 13, 1828, to the Paymaster General, in part: "...Your account from April 1 to the 31 of December, 1827, for books, stationery...has been adjusted at the Treasury...". Evenly toned with a few foxed spots, else good condition; FREDERICK FRELINGHUYSEN, partial D.S. but complete in itself, 1p. 8vo., certifying that he, a member of the Assembly: "...has attended 38 days this sitting...". Boldly signed on verso, with a second signature by PETER GORDON, former captain in Forman's Batallion and Heard's Brigade. Along with WILLIAM WALLACE, former first lieut. in 2nd N.H., manuscript D.S. 1p. 12mo., Sept. 10, 1770, a pay voucher for Benjamin Whitcomb. Also together with two manuscript Ds.S. 1p. oblong 8vo. each, signed by soldiers who served with distinction in the First N.J. Regt. "Jersey Line" at Monmouth during the Revolutionary War. The first by Capt. JOHN S. HOLMES (served 1777-1782), Aug. 17, 1796, in part: "...Please furnish the bearer John Reid with goods...". Reid also served briefly with the N.J. Militia. Small burn hole at center, overall good. Along with Capt. BARNS SMOCK (served 1778-1783), June 23, 1810, a receipt for three mares paid by John Holmes "...going to home and all horse accounts...". Boldly signed.
