Description:

REVOLUTIONARY WAR-ERA CAST IRON SMELTING LADLE
Large cast iron ladle, 49 in. long with a spout on either edge of the spoon, used in blacksmithing during the smelting process. Per our consignor, this example was pulled from Wharton State Forest in New Jersey, allowing us to date this piece to the Revolutionary War. An iron works forge in Wharton supplied the Continental Army with munitions, camp kettles, iron fastenings, etc. during the war. A fine heavy relic.
