1804. REV. MARTIN LUTHER KING SOLDIER FIELD SPEECH PROGRAM A rare program for the speech given by Rev. martin Luther King, Jr. at Soldier, Field, Chicago, June 21, 1964, a tri-fold measuring 18" x 8" when opened, printed on both sides and featuring a photo of King on the cover. The cover reads: "ILLINOIS RALLY FOR CIVIL RIGHTS", sets forth the date and names officials, and bears the encircled legend: "I CARED I WAS THERE". Printed within is the rally program which included King, Whitney M. Young, Roy Wilkins, and other civil rights and religious leaders. Opposite is "A Pledge of Action for Civil Rights" wherein the reader pledge to devote himself to work toward the enactment of "the strongest possible national civil rights legislation...to press the national political conventions...call on [Chicago] to adopt a policy of integrated education...promote freedom of residence...see the enforcement of fair labor practices...for the liberation of Negro Americans from the last traces of servitude...". Rally officers and a long list of supporters are also listed. A few scattered tiny spots, none on cover, a light vertical fold, else very good. On the very same day, June 21, 1964, civil rights workers Andrew Goodman, James Chaney and Mickey Schwerner were murdered in Neshoba County, Mississippi by members of the Ku Klux Klan, sparking national outrage and a federal investigation. $200-300
