Description:

REPEAL OF THE NON-IMPORTATION ACT OF 1806
War of 1812 related newspaper being, "Farmer's Cabinet", Amherst, N. H., June 1, 1812, 4pp. folio in which the major news of the day was the debate in Congress over the repeal of the Non Importation Act of 1806 in which the U.S. suspended trade with Great Britain and France. While the new nation crept towards war, President James Madison urged the members of Congress to await the return of the Sloop of War Hornet from her diplomatic mission to France. Other articles include concern in New York over Congress' ability to call a draft to organize the militia and a letter written by a naval officer from aboard the USS Wabash on the Barbary War. In less than three weeks Congress will declare war with Great Britain plunging us into a Second American Revolution. Much more interesting content. Centerfold split with soiling, else very good.
