RELIC OF AN RAF NORTHOLT SQUADRON P 3935 HURRICANE
An original wing tip of a RAF Hurricane P 3935, which crashed after a collision with a barrage balloon cable in Great Britain on October 15, 1940. The wing tip, bearing original ODG paint, measures approx. 14 in. long and is mounted to wooden base with a plaque reading: ‘HURRICANE P 3935 15 OCTOBER 1940 WING TIP AFTER HITTING BARRAGE BALLOON CABLE LANGLEY, KENT'. Ex: Bomber County Museum, Cleethorpes, with a museum label affixed on verso reading: ‘302 Squadron, Northolt. Hurricane P3935 balloon cable at Langley in bad visibility losing fourteen inches from starboard wing. Landed at Heston 12.00 p.m. Sergeant Kosarz unhurt. Aircraft WX-D damaged but reparable'. Pilot Wilhelm Kosarz (1908-1940) of the Polish 302 Squadron was shot down by an Me109 over Croydon, and died while parachuting out of his flaming aircraft on on November 8, 1940 – just three weeks after his crash in this Hurricane whose relic we now offer. Very good condition.
