Description:

RELIC FROM HOOD'S TEXAS BRIGADE
An interesting and scarce relic, being a flag remnant from the battle flag of the 5th Texas Infantry. "The Bloody 5th", as it was known, was part of Hood's famed Texas Brigade founded in 1861 and gained its nickname from the Second Manassas, where it destroyed two New York Regiments. This courageous victory earned the respect of John B. Hood. Fighting with distinction in the battles of Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Chickamauga and the Wilderness, the 5th was instrumental in saving Lee's army by holding a position against overwhelming forces, losing 565 men killed or wounded. The flag remnant came from Ensign W. C. Clark, flag bearer for the 5th, and measures 2" x 1 1/2". Handsomely matted with a reproduction photograph of the flag intact during the war. With a COA from The Historical Shop in Metairie.
