RELIC AND PHOTO GROUPING OF AIR MEDICAL EVACUATION SPECIALIST SGT. CHESTER B. SMITH
A fine grouping of items once belonging to Aif Force Tech. Sgt. Chester B. Smith who served on 118 combat missions in Vietnam in 1969-70 evacuating wounded soldiers from the battlefield to air fields as well as out of the country in aircraft especially designed for that purpose. The most signficant items included are: Smith''s Schrade-Walden combat knife and sheath, the sheath bearing a red tape repair with Smith''s COA; a massive 6" tall brass beer mug made from a 105mm 1969 artillery shell engraved: TSGT C.B. SMITH 903RD AEROMED EVAC SQ. QUINHON - VIETNAM 1969 - 70" and presented to Smith on his arrival at base after completing his 100th mission, with COA; Smith''s 1963 Zippo engraved: "C. B. SMITH 903RD AMES QUI NHON I.H.T.F.P. ["I Have Time For Prayer" or "I Hate This Fucking Place"] VIET NAM HO CHI MINH IS A A COMMUNIST MOTHER FUCKER" with the addition of the ubiquitous: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death..." motto; his spiral bound "USAF FLIGHT CREW CHECK LIST", approx. 20pp. 8vo., used in a C-130 with equipment lists, capacities, aircraft schematic, air base call signs, etc., Smith''s cased Air Medal, miniature Air Medal, and ribbon with copy of the award; cased Military Merit medal with ribbon; original personnel folder with copies of the documents originally contained within; dog tags, and his uniform "wings". Also present: a copy of the Saigon Daily News, Mar, 7, 1969, front page and pages attached thereto; copies of Smith''s citations, orders, etc.; 17 excellent copies of original photos owned by Smith showing various aircraft used for evacuation, the layout within those airplanes, men being evacuated, Smith in uniform, etc. with his comments on notes attached to the photos; and some other ephemera. Overall very good.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
