Description:

REINHARD HEYDRICH
(1904 - 1942) 'The Hangman', Nazi head of the dreaded SS and architect of the 'Final Solution', his assassination in Prague caused retribution in the destruction of Lidice and murder of many of its inhabitants. Rare T.L.S. 'Heydrich' on 'Der Reichsfuhrer SS Der Chef des Sicherheitshauptamtes' letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Feb. 22, 1938 to head of the personnel office, Berlin, concerning SS-Standartenfuhrer Paul Brantenaar and his alleged membership in a Masonic organization. In part: '...the documents sent to the main security office for examination and expert opinion on the lodge affair of SS standard guide Paul Brantenaar, SS no. 63 462, were sent back to the Central Office of the Supreme Party Court...it is noted in this connection that various facts about the former lodge membership of the SS standard leader Brantenaar have subsequently become known, which have changed the previous picture considerably and have given rise to a detailed report to the Reichsfuhrer SS...This report was presented on January 18, 1938 to the Reichsfuhrer SS, who ordered delivery to the head of the SS personnel office and investigation...' File holes at left margin, stamp and pencil dockets and a staple hole, else very good. Of course, membership in the Masons was absolutely forbidden for any member of the Nazi government, let alone the SS.
