Description:

Good pair of publications memorializing Reinhard Heydrich after his assassination, includes: rare printed booklet bearing a transcript of a speech from SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Karl Frank, 10pp. 8vo., presented in Prague after the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, in which a prominent embankment in the city was ceremonially named in Heydrich's honor. The speech, printed in Czech, reads in part: '…Today we gather here to add to the many names of the great Germans…so that the living and the next generation may still remember a man who…acted purposefully and decisively as the leader of Bohemia and Moravia: Reinhard Heydrich…we want to use this moment to recall the political will of the fallen martyr…Certainly, this assassination could be a milestone in the development of Bohemia and Moravia and as a warning reminder for the future of the Czech nation…this man's life is an example and his death is an eternal commitment…' The front cover bears a waist-up portrait of Heydrich in uniform. Moderate inkstain at lower-right corner, else very good. Ironically, even though a part of the city was named in his honor, Heydrich's brutal measures as Deputy Reich Protector would garner him the nickname 'the Butcher of Prague' before his death. Sold with a Czech magazine, issued shortly after his death, bearing his portrait on the front cover and captioned: 'SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Heydrich died as a result of a murderous attack'.
