Description:

REICHSTAG SILVER SERVING MEAT PLATTER WITH LID
A very rare item from the Reichstag, an enormous 21 1/2 inches long x 14" wide silver meat serving platter with lid measuring 5" tall x 18" long x 11" wide. Stamped on the underside "Wellner" with an 82 stamp. Wellner was the maker of most of Hitler's formal dinnerware with the exception of the flatware which was produced by Brückmann. The cover's handle bears several hallmarks: large letters spell out W.M.F for the maker, Wurtemberger; a stamped 31 to the right of it; and N S to the left. On the outside middle of the cover is the Chancellory eagle engraved with the R and K on either side of the wreathed swastika. The same eagle and letters appear on the platter at the middle of the rim. The platter and cover are in heavy nickel or brass deeply silver-plated. The R K dinnerware from the Chancelry in Europe is actually much more sought-after than the Adolf Hitler pieces that look virtually alike. Ironically, this meat platter must have been used strictly for the staff and honored guests as Hitler was a vegetarian! Very good to fine condition, a rarity indeed. Requires third-party shipping.
