RECOMMENDATION DOCUMENTS FOR FLAK COMMANDER RICHARD HAIZMANN
Good group of eight documents, all related to promotions and awards received by Richard Haizmann, commander of the 9th Flak Division at Stalingrad. Includes: Typed document, 2pp. 4to., [n.p., n.d.], an unsigned draft letter from a superior officer recommending Haizmann for the Iron Cross, First Class; an A.L.S., 1p. 4to., [n.p.], June 27, 1942, a recommemdation letter outlining Haizmann's service, written by a comrade; a typed D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., May 10, 1940, attesting that Haizmann had participated in the invasions of Belgium and France, as his Wehrpass did not currently contain this information; a typed document, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Feb. 3, 1943, marked secret, announcing changes to the Luftwaffe muster rolls to reflect the promotions of Haizmann and two others, signed very faintly in facsimile by a Luftwaffe general; a typed D.S., 1p. 4to., Jan. 22, 1943, a record of a radio message announcing Haizmann's promotion to major; a handwritten memo, 1p. 4to., recording the same information as above; a document, 1p. 4to., to which the text of a telegram has been pasted, recording the same information as above; and a typed document, 1p. 4to., [n.p., n.d.], an excerpted copy of a page from Haizmann's personnel file, recording the same information as above. Additional biographical information included with these items tells us that Haizmann surrendered at Stalingrad on Feb. 2, 1943, and died as a POW at Frolovo on Feb. 24 of the same year. Seven of the eight documents bear file holes at the left margin, and two bear moderate chipping at the edges, else very good.
