RAYMOND COLLISHAW TWO-KILL AIR COMBAT REPORT
RAYMOND COLLISHAW (1893 – 1976) Canadian fighter pilot, squadron leader, and commanding officer who served in the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) and RAF. He was the highest scoring RNAS flying ace and the second highest scoring Canadian pilot of the Wolrd War I. With the RAF in World War II , he commanded No. 204 Group, which later became the Desert Air Force. Fine content war-date document signed only in type, 1p. 4to., [France], July 22, 1918, a retained copy of Collishaw's report on his 50th and 51st "kills" made the same day over Dorigniers and Scarpe River. Collishaw notes he was flying a Sopwith Camel armed with two Vickers synchronized guns. His first combat is with a "2-seater reconnaissance machine...descending over aerodrome with full lights on. At about 800 feet I attacked and distinctly observed my tracers entering lighted pilot's cockpit. This machine fell in vicinity of northern hangars and burst into flames..." His second kill is: "...An Albatross Scout...I was attacked by three Albatross Scouts...I maneuvered for a good position and attacked one of them which fell out of control and crashed...". One corner chipped, else very good.
