RANDOLPH B. MARCY
(1812 - 1887) U.S. Army officer known for his frontier guidebook 'Prairie Traveler' about his own pioneering experiences, Chief of Staff for his son in law Gen. George McClellan, later Inspector General of the U.S Army. War-date A.L.S. on Army of the Potomac headquarters letterhead, 2pp. 8vo., Washington D.C., August 31, 1861, a letter to an unknown captain regarding an order about artillery units. In part: '...The General Comdg. has received your letter of the 19th and directed me to reply that he is not in favor of Regimental Organizations for artillery, but he would be very glad to accept your company or any other composed of such material as you describe...he hopes the gentleman connected with you may conclude that they can render as official service to the county in the way he suggests...inform me and the General will take immediate steps to have them accepted...' Marcy signs the conclusion, then adds an added post-script, then signs once again. Slight toning, else fine condition.

Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
