Description:

(RAFAEL TRUJILLO) VISOR CAP AND INSIGNIA OF RAMFIS TRUJILLO
RAFAEL LEONIDAS TRUJILLO (1929–1969) 'Ramfis', son of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo, dictator of the Dominican Republic, after whose 1961 assassination he briefly held power. In the immediate aftermath, Ramfis executed most of the conspirators. By November 1961, the Trujillo family was pressured into exile by the titular president Joaquín Balaguer, who introduced reforms to open up the regime. The murder ushered in civil strife which concluded with the Dominican Civil War and a US-OAS intervention, and eventually stabilized under a multi-party system in 1966. Nominally an army general and chief of the Dominican Air Force, he lived the life of a reckless and spoiled playboy. Remembered for his ruthlessness and cruelty, he went into exile in Spain, where he died of wounds ten days after crashing a sports car. Offered here is a large grouping of insignia and a military visor cap once belonging to Trujillo. The cap, a medium green twill, has gold bullion leaves on the brim, a gold wire chin strap, and metal insignia affixed to the front including the national coat of arms and the Dominican Air Force emblem. Cap made by Meyer, New York. Insignia includes: one pair of shoulder boards as head of the air force, two other sets of matching shoulder boards; and one unmatched set. There is also Trujillo's pin with the national coat of arms, two shoulder patches (one air force), and a 1956 bronze medal honoring his father, Rafael Trujillo. Overall very good.
