Description:

Most interesting and unusual typed document, 18pp. legal folio, [Ottawa, Dec. 25, 1917], a description for a radio-controlled torpedo submitted to the Canadian Commissioner of Patents by Massachusetts inventor Arthur Enoch Ericson. The proposal gives a lengthy and detailed description of the operating mechanism, and is illustrated by two diagrams printed on drafting canvas, both signed by Ericson, his attorney and two witnesses, and dated July 30, 1917 at New York. The first diagram depicts the radio-control sending and receiving stations, while the second depicts the steering mechanism of the torpedo and the weapon itself, which features two ludicrously tall and unwieldy radio masts jutting out from the top of the casing. The proposal and diagrams are secured within a stiff paper folder printed with the a Dominion of Canada patent certificate, giving the name of the inventor, the nature of his invention, the patent number "181340", and signed at the conclusion by a Deputy Commissioner of Patents. The folder shows folds, chips to the edges and some toning, with some additional toning to the pages within, else very good.
