Description:

230. RACIST BOOTBLACK BOX A great piece of black Americana, being a 10 1/2" x 8" wooden box that originally held Mason's Blacking, ca. late 1890s. Likely used as a display for the blacking in a store, the interior of the lid bears particularly colorful racist lithograph showing a happy black bootblack at work on a tall hunting boot that is held by a youngster. Bottom bears split, not affecting the structure of the box. Lithograph shows wear to edges, while box bears expected wear.             $200 - 300
