Description:

An authentic relic from the ill-fated passenger ship 'Titanic' which sank in the North Atlantic on April 15, 1912 with a huge loss of life: a 1.5 x 0.5 in. section of wood, teak or mahogany, removed from a wheelhouse door recovered by the cable-laying ship 'Minia' as she scoured the area for debris days after the sinking. The relic is presented in a 9 x 11 in. black frame along with a photo of the ship and a plaque reading ‘Authentic Titanic Wreck Wood'. Fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Kevin Saucier, President and Curator of Titanic Items and reads in part: ‘...the Cable Ship Minia was contracted by White Star Line to recover the unfortunate dead. On board was carpenter, William J. Parker, who also took wreckage (flotsam) from the sea...fashioned into useful items...Parker made this liquor cabinet from the wheelhouse door...gave it to Minia's Chief Officer James Adams. It was passed down to Adam's grandson Gerald Mullin, who kept it in the family until 1998 when it entered the collection of Titanic Concepts Inc...wood plank shown here was a shelf inside of that cabinet. It was removed and offered as an individual piece in 2005...The piece of wreck wood you now own was taken from this red wood stained shelf...'. Also included are three additional pieces of provenance reiterating the text of certificate and showing the succession of owners from William J. Parker to Kevin Saucier.
