952. ANTHONY QUINN (1915-2001) Mexican-American Academy Award-winning actor. Best remembered for his title roles as Zorba the Greek and Viva Zapata. A fine and unique item, being a program of approx. 40 pages, 4to., for the January 19, 1961 John F. Kennedy Inaugural Gala from Quinn's estate. These programs were given to all those in attendance of the famous affair in which Quinn, along with other famed actors like Laurence Olivier, Bette Davis, and Frederic March, entertained the audience by reading from the phone book! Quinn then obtained the signatures of sixteen performers, who sign on their respective page within the program, occasionally an inscription to Quinn. He signs on the cover "Tony Quinn", and within are included are: HARRY BELAFONTE, MILTON BERLE, JOEY BISHOP, NAT KING COLE (a fine example), BETTE DAVIS, ELLA FITZGERALD, JIMMY DURANTE, MAHALIA JACKSON, PETER LAWFORD, FREDERIC MARCH, LAURENCE OLIVIER, SIDNEY POITIER, KEELY SMITH and LOUIS PRIMA, and HELEN TRAUBEL, plus others. Accompanying this item is the original photo album from the event, given to all those who performed. The wire-bound volume contains photographs from the Kennedy inauguration printed on heavy cardboard stock, with wonderful images of J.F.K. being sworn-in, the cavalcade before the White House, the performers on stage, attendees, and so forth. Obtained directly from a family member. Both pieces exhibit the usual wear from being toted around, else very good condition. A fine association piece! 800 - 1,000
