Description:

QUEEN VICTORIA'S LACE
A wonderful group of original lace and embroidery created for the wardrobe of Queen Victoria. Beautifully crafted in peach, ecru and pink, in various sizes and patterns and presented with period pins on paper with pencil identifications of patterns such as 'Polonaise', and noting fabric used and on which part of the gowns they should be sewn. With a letter of provenance from Lillian Richardson, 1p. 8vo., Haselbech Hall, Northampton, [n.d.], in part: '...This lace, silk and linen are from Queen Victoria's bedchamber. They were used to make dresses for the Queen...My Grandmother was a secretary at Haselbech Hall & these items were passed to her by her friend, Mrs. May Pratt who worked at Buckingham Palace as a resident of the Woman [sic] of the bed chamber during the latter half of the last century. Haselbech Hall was the home of Charles Bower Ismay, Brother of the White Star Line Chairman & Titanic Survivor'. Charles Ismay (1874-1924) was the youngest son of the founder of the White Star Line whose most famous vessel was, of course, the Titanic. His brother Joseph Bruce Ismay was the chairman of the Line when the Titanic sank, and was heavily criticized after the disaster. In pristine, original condition and well-suited to creative display.
