Description:

Queen/Freddie Mercury Handwritten Postcard
The late Freddie Mercury (1946-91), known for his flamboyant stage persona, distinctive voice and songwriting talent, left a legacy of hit songs including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Somebody To Love" and "We Are the Champions." The singer's career was cut short when he succumbed to AIDS in 1991. This undated postcard written while on tour reads in full: "My Dearest and precious cherub, I thought I'd finally get it together and write you my first little card, I hope all's going well with you and go easy on those business lunches or else you're going to burst before I can get back to you - you're going to have to fit into one of my cat suits if it kills you (it probably will). The rest of the tour is coming along nicely, but I can't wait to get back, Love you and miss you madly - My love to everyone back home, and take special care of yourself my dear, Oodles of Love & Kisses, Freddie". Though no recipient is specified on the postcard, it was amongst the items originally auctioned in the mid-1990's from the collection of Mercury's lover, David Minns. LOA from Bonhams Auctions specifies the postcard was, indeed, written to David Minns. Minns is co-author of "Freddie Mercury - The Real Life - The Truth Behind The Legend." The heavily embossed bird and flower on the reverse of the card leaves an imprint on the handwritten side. Executed in blue ballpoint pen, 5.5" x 3.5", in very fine condition.
