Description:

QUASI-WAR PERIOD INSPECTION ROLL Partly printed document, 1p. folio, [n.p. but possibly Sherborn, Mass., n.d. c. 1797-1800], an "Inspection Roll of Capt. Moses Babcock Company of Calvary" likely dating from the quasi-war with France. The roll lists Captain Babcock together with his two lieutenants and cornet, four sergeants and a trumpeter and 29 rank and file. Beside the names appear several columns noting the presence or absence of horses, saddles, bridles, pistols and the like. The verso bears instructions for completing the roll and is signed in print by Adjutant and Inspector General William Dennison. Light creases, a few minor losses toward margins, otherwise very good. $75-100
