QUARTERMASTER'S ACCOUNT BOOK Manuscript account book, 13 1/2 leaves, 12pp. filled in, 4to., Schenectady, 1781, entitled an "Account of Boards & Plank Recd from sundry Persons &c & Different Mills as Schenectady 1781 " kept by Major Nicholas Quakenbush, Assistant Deputy Quartermaster at Albany. The manuscript lists transactions from July 20 to August 29, 1781 nothing deliverers of boards, planks, together with Pitch and other sundries. Suppliers included Jacob Fonda, "Col Jno. Renselears Mills", Tobias Ten Eyck, "Shermerhorn Mills ", Jacob Quakenbush, Isaac Swift, and many others. The lumber was used for a variety of purposes including the construction of shipping for the Hudson River and for housing for Continental troops and cavalry. A testament to the broad importance of the Mohawk Valley during the American Revolution. Simply string bound, first page loose, usual folds, light soiling, otherwise very good. $300-500
