Description:

Good lot of 23 German-produced propaganda leaflets in English (with some bilingual in French), all 8vo. or smaller, all encouraging Allied soldiers to surrender and become prisoners of war in order to avoid death and dismemberment. Four are printed in both English and French and were distributed specifically to Canadian soldiers. These argue that the blame for the war lies with Britain and the U.K., and that Canadian soldiers should have no quarrel with Germany. They encourage Canadian soldiers to sit out the conflict by surrendering. Another interesting example mimics a tourist brochure inviting soldiers to visit "Sunny Germany", where they will be well treated until the "season ends". Additional examples relate (likely fictitious) stories of entire platoons surrendering, while others mimic official death rolls and telegrams. A commonly-repeated line is: "Dead Men Tell No Tales - But P.W.'s Do!" All show some degree of toning, with most also showing chips, tears, folds or soiling, very good overall. Should be seen. 23 pieces.
