Description:

PRISONER INFORMATION CARDS FROM "CAMP ASHCAN"
Important set of 52 original carbons titled: "Prisoner of War Preliminary Record", each 8" x 8", information forms and fingerprint cards from the infamous Allied prisoner-of-war camp in the Palace Hotel of Mondorf-les-Bains, Luxembourg, code named "Camp Ashcan". Each hard is annotated "CCPWE #32", an abbreviation for the Central Continental Prisoner of War Enclosure #32. Operating from May to August 1945, it served as a processing station and interrogation center for the 86 most prominent surviving Nazi leaders prior to their trial in Nuremberg, including Hermann Göring and Karl Dönitz. Each card bears the prisoner's name, place of birth, next of kin, date of capture, date of arrival, date of transfer, physical description, distinguishing marks, etc. Among the cards present are those created for HERMANN GORING, WILHELM KEITEL, ALBERT KESSELRING, ALFRED ROSENBERG, FRANZ RITTER VON EPP, ERWIN KRAUS, KARL DONITZ, HERMANN REINECKE, ROBERT LEY, PAUL WEGENER, GEORG LINDEMANN, FRANZ SELDTE, ALFRED JODL, KURT DALUEGE, WALTER BUCH, HANS FRANK, JULIUS STREICHER, JOACHIM VON RIBBENTROP, LEONARDO CONTI, ARTHUR SEYSS-INQUART, KARL BRANDT, WILHELM FRICK, ALBERT SPEER, and other top Nazi administrator, military leaders, aides, etc. Very good. Security was so tight at the camp that even the MPs guarding the perimeter knew not what went on inside; they quipped that getting in required "a pass signed by God, and then somebody has to verify the signature". Conditions in the prison were Spartan. The hotel furniture was replaced by Army cots and collapsible tables. On 10 August 1945, the prisoners were transferred to Nuremberg to stand trial, and the camp was disbanded shortly afterwards. Ex: Charles Hamilton, to our consignor.
