(1763 - 1827) British prince and military commander, the second son of George III. As Commander-in-Chief during the Napoleonic Wars, he oversaw the reorganization of the British Army, establishing vital structural, administrative and recruiting reforms for which he is credited with having done 'more for the army than any one man has done for it in the whole of its history.' Good content manuscript L.S., 1p. legal folio, 'Head Quarters Schagen Brug', Oct. 15, 1799 - two days before he would sign the Convention of Alkmaar and commence his withdrawal following the Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland. Frederick sends an order to his Commissary General, in part: '...A number of Schuyts and other Craft, which were taken up and employed in the Public Service as Gun Boats and otherwise having been lost, taken or destroyed, I desire you will pay to the Proprietors thereof...fair and equitable compensation...' Folds, else very good. Undoubtedly, this compensation was part of the treaty he would conclude a few days later.
