PRESENTATION TANKARD TO FREGATTENKAPITAN CARL CHRISTIANSEN FROM HIS BROTHER LUFTWAFFE GEN. FRIEDRICH CHRISTIANSEN
Presentation sterling silver tankard presented by Luftwaffe Gen. FRIEDRICH CHRISTIANSEN to his brother, Brigadefuhrer CARL CHRISTIANSEN. The 4 1/2" tall tankard has a hinged lid with a Luftwaffe eagle and swastika engraved at top. The presentation reads (in German): "The Wehrmacht Commander in the Netherlands and Corps Commander of the N.S. Flying Corps Holland 1940/41 - [Signature] General der Flieger". On the opposite side, facing a right-handed user, is a fine engraving of a lighthouse and a village, captioned: "Hoek van Holland". Hallmarked on bottom "925" and "Beveer v. Kempanavos". Fine. FRIEDRICH CHRISTIANSEN (1879-1972) was a World War I German seaplane ace who claimed shooting down twenty planes and an airship. During World War II, he was the commander of the German Wehrmacht in the Netherlands; he was convicted of war crimes after the war. CARL CHRISTIANSEN (1884-1969) was a Kriegsmarine officer and the younger brother the general. During World War I he had bravely delivered arms to an African colony despite the near destruction of his vessel and his own wounding. From 1934-37 he served as Polizeipräsident in Magdeburg. In June 1940, Carl served as Fregattenkapitan der Reserve zur Verfügung on his brother's staff, and in April, 1941 he was promoted to NSFK-Brigadeführer. After September, 1942 Carl served as a General Inspector at the Reichskommissar for the Merchant Marine.
